Five star Dromoland Castle Hotel is located in Co. Clare and has a reputation for its warm hospitality and unique experience for guests. One of the Resort’s cornerstones believes that the small things are the most important, and pays careful attention to detail. No matter what the role, all employees interact with the guests which create a “home away from home environment” giving that extra special experience.
Over the years, Dromoland Castle has built a strong working relationship with Employability Clare services and has offered working opportunities for a number of people with disabilities, providing seasonal work; more especially in the gardens of the Castle.
The role of gardener has the responsibility for weeding, mowing, pruning and general upkeep of the grounds. Each gardener is also expected to welcome guests, answer any questions about the plants, flowers or history of the grounds. Over the last number of years, Employability Clare has had huge success in placing participants in Dromoland Castle into this role.
Both employer and employee gain from the experience as the hotel benefits from having motivated, loyal staff who thoroughly enjoy the work and contribute to the overall maintenance of the fabulous gardens. The workforce is also increased during the busy periods which significantly help the Resort manage the demands of the summer months. The employee benefits from working in the outdoors, close to nature and in a stress free environment. They work as part of a team and support one another while gaining new skills. Ultimately the work provides the employee with the confidence and experience for future employment.
