The Employer Disability Information (EDI) service provides employers with a free peer source of advice and information on employing staff with disabilities, with a view to enhancing their confidence and competence to employ, manage and retain staff with disabilities. The ultimate aim is to promote increased employment of people with disabilities. With the backing of a consortium of employer organisations - Chambers Ireland, Ibec and ISME – and funding from the National Disability Authority, the EDI service offers:
- A dedicated helpline giving advice and information to employers about recruiting and employing people with disabilities;
- A central web-based information resource incorporating guidance and a FAQ section, which is kept up to date;
- An outreach information service for employers;
- An information and resource sharing service for participating organisations.
Employer Disability Information will continue to meet employers across Ireland and educate them on inclusive employment. We will grow our website to include employer toolkits, case studies and guides. We will strive to refresh the brand and run a marketing campaign to challenge employers attitudes. Aim to be the one-stop-shop for knowledge and know-how on disability and work in Irish organisations.
Continue to raise awareness of the EDI services following the success of the pilot phase.
Engage employers to the service via interactions both on and off line and by building the
Employer Peer Network. Secure public disability commitment as the first step.
Promote the various external resources available to employers using the Employer Peer Network and website. Promote best practice through the further development of the Employer Experiences' section.
Educate the employer community around disability in the workplace and creating an environment receptive to disclosure, reasonable accommodations and retention. Provide online learning resources to employers via the website to address their knowledge gaps when recruiting, managing and retaining people with disabilities in the workplace. This approach will hold greater appeal for the target audience, provide for greater engagement with best practice disability related information for employers and is measurable.
Further engagement with DEASP. Continue to work to remove barriers to employment for people with disabilities and to improve the application process for employers.
Partnership approach. Working in partnership with business partners to run awareness raising events such as the WorkABLE Future event. Also working with organisations to help them at any stage of engagement in disability at work issues. Meeting employers' needs by educating senior staff and assisting them to set up Employee Resource Groups to build the disability inclusion business case.
Continue to provide peer advice and information to employers on the tools required to include disability at work; step by step approaches, practical measures and access to the untapped pool of educated and talented potential recruits with disabilities.
Create a standard of disability competence/confidence to help employers to assess their current status and how they could improve their disability at work initiatives.
Three-year plan with incremental increases to funding year on year, starting at €250,000.
